Tsunami relief concert success
From City Scene, published on 25 October, 2009.
As the tsunami relief efforts continue, last week saw the I
Love the Islands Samoa relief concert at Vector Arena - with more than 10,000
people attending and over $250,000 raised.
Auckland City Council helped the
Pacific Awards Music Trust
arrange the fantastic event - which saw all musicians, businesses and personnel
providing their services for free.
Last week also saw the first containers of urgent tsunami
relief, organised by the Samoan Tsunami 2009 Charitable Trust, reach villagers
in Samoa. The containers on-board the HMS Canterbury were featured in last
week's City Scene. Another shipment of 14 containers left last weekend and is
due to arrive in Apia shortly.
Red Cross donation boxes are still available at the front
offices of Auckland City Council's Civic Building (Greys Avenue), Auckland City
Environments building (35 Graham Street) and at every Auckland City Council
library.
You can also make an automatic donation of $20 to the
Samoan Tsunami 2009 Appeal by calling 0900 75 633.
