News in brief: Draft gambling venue policy
Slot machines
From City Scene, published on 1 November, 2009.
People have until 5 November to have their say on the
council's proposed draft gambling venue policy. The current policy states that
class 4 gambling venues (such as bars that operate pokie machines) cannot move
despite some venues being run-down, located in clusters and in high-
deprivation areas.
Under the draft policy, the council would continue to not
consent to any increase in venue or machine numbers, but may consider consent
for a "new" class 4 or NZRB venue (TABs) as long as it replaces an existing
venue.
