People have until 5 November to have their say on the council's proposed draft gambling venue policy. The current policy states that class 4 gambling venues (such as bars that operate pokie machines) cannot move – despite some venues being run-down, located in clusters and in high- deprivation areas.

Under the draft policy, the council would continue to not consent to any increase in venue or machine numbers, but may consider consent for a "new" class 4 or NZRB venue (TABs) – as long as it replaces an existing venue.

Find out more about the draft gambling venue policy and supporting documentation online or ph 379 2020. Public consultation on the policy will finish this Thursday, 5 November at 5pm.
