PIMs - building consent update

Property owners no longer have to apply for Project Information Memorandums (PIMs).

As of 31 January, property owners applying for building consents no longer have to apply and pay for Project Information Memorandums (PIMs).

PIMs became voluntary under the Building Amendment Act 2009.

However, for some property owners, PIMs can help you make an informed choice, saving both time and money in the building consent process. PIMs can make you aware of potential issues such as:

  • any "special feature" of the land
  • details of existing stormwater or wastewater systems/services relating to the proposed building work, or its adjacent site
  • contaminated sites
  • other information the property is affected by - such as additional acts or district plans (for example, resource consent)
  • heritage status of buildings
  • plus much more.

If you choose not to have a PIM report, we would advise you to have a pre-lodgement meeting with council officers.

For more information, visit the Department of Building and Housing or the Project Information Memoranda section or phone Auckland City Council.
