Proposed improvements to public transport and pedestrian
facilities
Auckland City Council is proposing to upgrade a section of
Sandringham Road to meet changing transport demands in the area and to provide
for an expanded Kingsland railway station. Your views are important to us. Open
days will be held to get public feedback on the proposed improvements.
The expected benefits of the changes include:
- improved transport choices in the area and meeting
increased use of passenger transport
- improved local street network for all users (buses, cars,
cyclists and pedestrians)
- improved accessibility within the Eden Park precinct
- improved traffic safety in the area.
The proposed plan includes:
- improving pedestrian access across Walters and Sandringham roads
- a new "link-lane" connection between Walters and Sandringham roads
- increasing on-street parking on Sandringham Road
- creating a dedicated southbound bus and cycle lane on Sandringham Road
- wider footpaths for improved pedestrian safety
- improving the street environment.
The redevelopment of Eden Park as part of the 2011 Rugby
World Cup and the planned enhancement of the
Kingsland Railway station by the
Auckland Regional Transport Authority has provided an opportunity for the Sandringham Road improvements in the vicinity of Eden Park to be delivered
earlier than originally planned. The implementation of this upgrade is planned
for 2010.
