Marine Events Centre
From City Scene, published on 19 April 2009
Auckland City Council is planning an events centre for the
Halsey Street extension wharf at the Viaduct Harbour. The centre is part of the
vision for a revitalised CBD waterfront.
Councillors have proposed bringing forward the completion
date of this centre so it
can be ready for Rugby World Cup 2011. Funding for the centre is included in the
council's draft 10-year plan and budget, which went out for public consultation
on Friday, 17 April.
The centre would provide infrastructural support for major
events. It would also enable enhanced public access to and use of this area and
CBD waterfront. At the same time, the marine and fishing industry would be able
to continue to operate from the wharf.
The building's preliminary design has been endorsed by the
council's urban design panel, and resource consents have been submitted to the
Auckland Regional Council.
The resource consent application has been publicly notified
and members of the public are entitled to lodge submissions to the
Auckland
Regional Council.

Centre resource consent application section online or phone Auckland City Council to view a
