Rating information database

From City Scene, published on 3 May 2009

The Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 requires the council to prepare a rating information database, which must include the following information in relation to each rating unit within the Auckland City Council district.

  • All information relating to the rating unit that is included in the district valuation roll.
  • All information relating to the unit that is required to:
    • determine the differential category to which the unit belongs for setting the general rate
    • determine the category (if any) to which the unit belongs for setting targeted rates
    • calculate the amount of liability for a targeted rate, eg a targeted rate for waste collection.

This is the information required for setting and assessing rates of each rating unit.

Notice is given under section 28(4) of the Local Government (Rating) Act 2002 that the Auckland city rating information database is now available for inspection at:

  • the online Property and rates in Auckland city section of our website
  • the ground floor of the Civic Administration Building, 1 Greys Avenue, central city (8am to 5pm)
  • Belgium Street, Ostend, Waiheke Island (8am to 5pm)
  • Claris, Great Barrier Island (8am to 5pm)
  • any community library (during opening hours).

Any ratepayer may object to the information contained in the database on one or more of the following grounds.

  • A rating unit included in the district valuation roll has been omitted from the database.
  • Information included in the district valuation roll has been omitted from, or inaccurately entered in, the database.
  • Information included in the database, other than information entered from the district valuation roll, is incorrect.
  • There has been a failure to enter a lawful amendment to the district valuation roll into the database.

Objection forms are available online or by calling Auckland City Council.
