Ponsonby Road speed limit reduction

40km/h speed limits on Ponsonby Road between Karangahape
Road and Jervois Road
At its meeting on Thursday, 6 August 2009, Auckland City
Council resolved, pursuant to clause 25.6.3 of Auckland City Council Traffic
Bylaw 2006, to impose a 40km/h speed limit on
Ponsonby Road between Karangahape
and Jervois roads.
It has been resolved at the meeting that:
- the Transport Committee notes the outcome of the
consultation with 79 per cent supporting the proposed speed limit reduction in Ponsonby Road from 50km/h to 40km/h
- pursuant to clause 25.6.3 of the Traffic Bylaw 2006, the
Transport Committee amends the speed limit from 50km/h to 40km/h on Ponsonby
Road between the intersections with Karangahape Road and Jervois Road and amends
the schedules to the prior resolution of the council entitled "Special Saved
Speed Limits" by adding Ponsonby Road between the intersections with Karangahape
Road and Jervois Road to the part of the schedule relating to 40km/h roads
- the speed limit will take effect on completion of
installation of signs and that an education campaign on the speed limit be
undertaken concurrently
- the Transport Committee notes the recommendations from
the working group
- that the Ponsonby Working Group supports the lowering to
40km/h speed limit in Ponsonby Road in conjunction with an education and
enforcement campaign
- that the Transport Committee be advised that the working
group considers this as a valuable first step for Ponsonby Road pedestrian and
road users' safety and amenity
- That the Transport Committee be advised that the working group will continue to
work through on other issues concerning Ponsonby Road.
Appropriate signs and road marking will be implemented in
September 2009 to show the area where the speed limit will operate.
