Application for resource consent

From City Scene, published on 25 October 2009

Auckland City Council has received an application for resource consent under the Resource Management Act 1991 for Jellicoe and Halsey streets and 1-47 Jellicoe Street, central city. You can make a submission on this application. See the end of this notice for more information on how to do this.

Details

The proposal is for the "public realm" development of Jellicoe Street (east of Daldy Street), the northern section of Halsey Street and the northern 6m of 1-47 Jellicoe Street.

Works to Jellicoe Street include the narrowing and resurfacing of the existing carriageway (to a 7m width); introduction of landscaping either side of the redeveloped carriageway; incorporation of parallel parking, loading, and street furniture (4.7m width); and the provision of footpaths either side of the proposed landscaping (3.25m width). These works are contained within an overall 22.9m road width.

Works to Halsey Street (north of its intersection with Jellicoe Street) provide a pedestrian circulation area to the east of 1-47 Jellicoe Street and retain vehicular access to the Halsey Street Extension Wharf.

Works to the north of 1-47 Jellicoe Street (for a depth of 6m and length of 177m) include the provision of public open space for pedestrian circulation (1.2m width); alfresco dining (4.2m width) and areas of public seating.

Resource consent is required under the provisions of the operative central area district plan and proposed plan modification 4 (Wynyard Quarter). Consent matters relate to the remediation of a contaminated site; introduction of street furniture (seating, bollards, cycle racks, rubbish bins, drinking fountains, wayfinding signage); road signage and parking meters within Jellicoe Street and Halsey Street; removal of seven pohutukawa trees and two cabbage palm trees located in Jellicoe Street (five of the pohutukawa trees will be relocated within Jellicoe Street); provision of food and beverage, entertainment and gathering activities (including alfresco dining).

Overall the status of the activity is non-complying.
