Captured in time9 May 2008 A diverse collection of photographic images by past and present Unitec photography students will show at upcoming Artstation exhibition Te Tahi Maui: A survey of 20 years of photography from the graduates of Unitec. To celebrate 20 years of photography at Unitec, photographer Haruhiko Sameshima along with current photography students, has assembled the work of former students who are now leading practitioners in their fields. "The works are as diverse as their subjects and treatment, presenting a fascinating cross section of photography as a multi-disciplinary medium," says Mr Sameshima. One of the exhibiting photographers is Edith Amituanai, recipient of the Marti Friedlander Photographic Award 2007 and finalist for the Walters Prize 2008, one of New Zealand's major contemporary art awards. A panel discussion with the artists, chaired by Allan McDonald, photography lecturer at Unitec, will discuss the theme of narrative in relation to the works on show and current photographic practices. The exhibition runs from 4 to 21 June at Artstation as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography. For more information visit the website or call 09 376 3221. |
