Be Active in Mt Albert

back to Be Active

As part of our commitment to provide sustainable modes of transport, this map is one of a series to help you lead a healthy and active lifestyle - enjoy our city!

This information aims to help make it easier to squeeze 30 minutes of activity into a busy day. Exercise can keep your body, heart and mind in better shape.

You will find some interesting suggested routes around your neighbourhood that you can either walk or cycle. These plans include routes to your town centre, shops, train station, bus stops, libraries, community centres and recreational routes through parks and open spaces. Walking to the shops, library, the train station or bus stop can become part of a more active lifestyle.

You can also use the map to create your own individual route and plot your achievements, by using the scales at the bottom of the map. You can keep track of your progress by measuring where you walk and the calories you burn, the time it takes or how long you walk or cycle.

To work out how many calories you use each day on your walks measure the distance you walk or cycle and use the scale below to help you calculate it. The table below tells you how many calories you will burn using any of the routes marked on the maps whether you are walking or cycling.

Cycling on the road requires sound cycling skills, please be particularly careful when cycling through town centres, at intersections, along main roads and where there are no dedicated cycle facilities. To keep safe, you should always wear a helmet, dress in bright colours and follow the road rules.

As a pedestrian, please take care when crossing the road.
