Hire a studio

The following studios are for hire at accessible rates, when not being used for Artstation courses. For terms and conditions please contact the Artstation office.

Darkroom

The darkroom is equipped with seven enlargers, tanks, reels, tongs and trays. Hirers supply own chemicals, paper and specialised tools and equipment. Film, paper, chemicals, negative sheets, multigrade filter packets and protective gloves are available for purchase at the Artstation office.

Hire rates, per person:
$30 half day $50 whole day
Artstation student concession
$15 half day $25 whole day

(The concession price is for students who have completed the Introduction to Black/White darkroom skills course at Artstation.)

Print studio

The print studio has two presses, a hot plate, blankets, acid and rosin.

Hirers must supply their own paper, tools, inks, mull, zinc and solar plate.

Printmaking papers, zinc and mull are available for purchase from the Artstation office.

Hire rates: $15 half day, $30 whole day.

Sculpture studio

Sculpture studio, plaster room and finishing room

These studios are available for hire to people who have completed a qualification in cast glass (a reference or degree certificate will need to be sighted) or 80 hours of tuition in glass at Artstation.

The studios are divided into 2 areas:

  1. Sculpture studio and plaster room
    Facilities available: bowls, scales, steamers and hot plate. Hirers must supply their own saucepan/pot for recycling wax and their own materials.
    Note: plaster, silica, wax, masks, gloves, grog and grit available for sale in small quantities from the Artstation office.
  2. Finishing room and firings
    Finishing equipment available: grinder, cut off saw, diamond drill
    Kilns available for hire between class firings.

Art workshop venue

Artstation, located in the historic former Grey Lynn Police Barracks is available as a unique venue for one off art activities or a series of workshops.

Artstation can augment existing art programmes or provide the facilities and staff for team building and art related programmes. Artstation can be used as a film and commercial location. Parking and kitchen facilities are also available.
