Approaches to portraiture and figurative drawing and painting
Learn to draw and paint from the model using both traditional and contemporary methods.
Students will be encouraged to try a range of approaches including
observational drawing, translating from photographs, and tracing and painting
techniques, to discover your strengths and assist in fostering individual directions.

Portraits in Alla Prima
Each week there is a new model or lighting situation. Students will work one portrait oil sketch
per class. On a toned canvas using a wet into wet oil painting method students
will be encouraged to concentrate on colour and tonal value.
Students will work at their own pace, as these classes will be bold and fun. Information on
contemporary approaches to life painting will be discussed at each session.
Maximum enrolment is 15.
Weekend workshop: Head studies
This workshop offers students the opportunity to engage in an exploration of the structure and form of the
human head. Beginning with observational drawing, students will explore issues
of volume, tone, line and space. We will then progress towards painting and the
development of an expressive and individual approach.
Course fee includes cost of the model.

Expressive life drawing and painting
This exciting course concentrates on developing our own expressive abilities and styles. With an open
approach to anatomy and references to art history, we will explore numerous
techniques. With music and movement we will increase our joy of art making and
give our art purpose and life.
Bring preferred materials, paper is available from the Artstation office. The models fee is included in the cost of the
course.

Life drawing
In this course participants will cover the formal properties of figure drawing in a
professional studio environment. Experienced models, easels and instruction by a
professional artist and tutor are provided for both students and artists.
Large sheets of paper, bulldog clips and charcoal are available for purchase from the
office. The models fee is included in the cost of the course.
