Life
drawing
In this course participants will cover the formal properties of figure
drawing in a professional studio environment. Experienced models, easels and
instruction by a professional artist and tutor are provided for both students
and artists.
Large sheets of paper, bulldog clips and charcoal are available for purchase
from the office. The models fee is included in the cost of the course.
Maximum enrolment is 15.
Portraiture and figure painting
This class gives students an opportunity for an in-depth exploration of
traditional portrait and figure painting/drawing techniques and ideas. There is
an emphasis on creating a strong understanding of tone, colour and line, which
in turn creates the illusion of form and space.
Students will work directly from the model with one or two poses for the
term. A basic understanding of colour theory and painting/drawing techniques
would be helpful but not necessary to enjoy this course.
Maximum enrolment is 12.

Workshop:
Painting the clothed figure (new)
Ebauche - working wet into wet to create a quick colour study - is
a great way to push our perception and narrative. The ebauche gives you
instant results before embarking onto a more developed work. Sometimes they can
be beautiful finished paintings in themselves!
Gesture, colour and light are just some of the topics covered in this class.
Students will paint quick two hour painting sketches of the costumed figure with
colourful backdrops that will aid understanding of light and colour.
Four models will be posing consecutively - each for two and a half hours.
