Painting and drawing

From the ground up - mixed media

This class approaches painting as a construction process. It starts with the choice and preparation of the initial support, and works through the possibilities that present themselves at each stage within the development of a painting.

Issues relating to idea generation will be considered and discussed, but students should come with a ‘sense of a project’ that they would like to develop. Students will be encouraged to consider the relationship between material, process and idea as the emphasis is on thinking through making.

Maximum enrolment is 8.

This course is suitable for those who have completed several of the stage 2 painting classes, or who are motivated to extend their practice towards a more independent level. Bring materials relevant to your practice.

Carefully prepared projects provide strong direction and structure but with plenty of flexibility for open interpretations, and with a particular emphasis on individual creative growth.
