Painting and drawing
From the ground up - mixed media
This class approaches painting as a construction process. It starts with the
choice and preparation of the initial support, and works through the
possibilities that present themselves at each stage within the development of a
painting.
Issues relating to idea generation will be considered and discussed, but
students should come with a ‘sense of a project’ that they would like to
develop. Students will be encouraged to consider the relationship between
material, process and idea as the emphasis is on thinking through making.
Maximum enrolment is 8.

A painting project
Students are encouraged to develop a clear and personal painting approach in
a relaxed and supportive environment. It is preferred that students are ready
and prepared to explore their own individual projects and ideas.
This course is suitable for those who have completed several of the stage 2
painting classes, or who are motivated to extend their practice towards a more
independent level. Bring materials relevant to your practice.
Maximum enrolment is 15.

Observational
drawing
This series of classes will explore how to translate what is seen in
three-dimensional space into a drawn image.
In a supportive studio setting, students will be encouraged to explore their
personal view of the world, both through a range of media and through developing
an individual visual language. Each class will offer a slightly different angle
on a range of objects and settings.
Maximum enrolment is 10.

Painting
This course is designed to explore contemporary approaches to painting.
Beginning with observation, we will work through both drawing and painting,
experimenting with scale, media and technique.
Carefully prepared projects provide strong direction and structure but with
plenty of flexibility for open interpretations, and with a particular emphasis
on individual creative growth.
A materials list is available on request. Suitable for those with some
experience.
Maximum enrolment is 15.

Paint
and possibility - a painter's toolbox
This process-based class is about discovery. The only prerequisite is a
willingness to freely experiment with media, tools and techniques. Students will
be guided through a range of exercises that will explore paint application and
removal, compositional and mark-making approaches and methods of idea
generation.
In a relaxed and supportive environment, students will be encouraged to find
a visual language that interests and excites them and which can be extended into
a personal painting practice.
Maximum enrolment is 8.
