Introduction to fine art photography
This course is for intermediate to advanced photographers who want to develop a
self-generated photography project with a fine arts focus. Students will share
and discuss their idea and work as part of the course.

Camera and composition
This course covers shutter speed, depth-of-field, focus, focal length, and the different camera programme
options that affect both the technical aspects of your photo taking as well as
the composition of your images.
Please note for those with film cameras that the developing and printing of film is not covered in this course. Bring your camera
and manual to the class.

Black and white photography and darkroom skills
This course covers basic darkroom printing skills, shooting
a roll of film and thinking about the 'black and white subject' in photo taking.
It is designed for beginners who have a basic understanding of how to operate
their camera and for those students wanting to refresh their skills.
This practically intensive course will take students step
by step through basic darkroom skills ; from film processing, to contact
printing , how to use the enlarger and other darkroom equipment, and printing
from negatives. We will also be looking at photography, shooting a roll of film
and thinking about the" black and white subject" in photo taking.
Students can purchase their own photographic paper
available at the office. All other materials and equipment provided. Bring your
SLR camera to the first session.

The art and craft of photographic printing
Suitable for those students who have completed the darkroom
skills course or who have similar experience. This course offers more
experienced students the opportunity to refine their black and white printing
skills and to explore photographic image making both with and without the
negative.
Through practical application of the craft and guidance
from group tutorials, students will be encouraged to work towards finding there
"subject" by utilising both the technical and aesthetic possibilities within the
medium.
Skills practiced in the darkroom will include; film
processing, photograms, contrast and tonal balance; cropping and composition;
using filters, selenium toning for archival permanence and aesthetic affect,
spot retouching.
Students can purchase their own photographic paper
available at the office. All other materials and equipment provided. Bring your
SLR camera and any negatives to the first session. Repeat students welcome.
