Exhibition proposals
Artstation welcomes exhibition proposals.
The Artstation Gallery is a public gallery showing a wide range of culturally
diverse exhibitions, appealing to a broad cross section of viewers. The stated aim
is to provide a professional space for emerging artists to exhibit quality work
which is representative of the wider community. The exhibitions are selected by
the Artstation curatorial group which meet three times a year.
The gallery is situated on the first floor of the Artstation building. The large
rectangular space is 10 x 8 metres and has a ceiling height of 3.3 metres. The walls
have a flexible panelling system which allow the seven windows in the gallery to
be covered or uncovered. The gallery has track lighting and multiple power outlets.
Artstation welcomes proposals from the following groups:
- artists and curators working in a community context
- new and emerging artists, including tertiary students and recent graduates
- Tangata whenua arts and culture
- cultural groups.
And from groups that will present exhibitions which:
- comment on community and social issues
- involve community and/or audience participation.
Please note priority is given to group exhibitions.

How to submit a proposal
Applicants should supply a written outline of the proposed exhibition stating:
- the idea behind the exhibition
- the reason for the exhibition
- how the exhibition is relevant to the communities of Auckland
- how the exhibition will look
Applicants should also state the number of artists in the exhibition, the disciplines
and media to be used, and any technical requirements.
Please also include visuals of relevant work and curriculum vitae for each artist
to support your proposal.
Contextual
information
Contextual information is required to support Artstation Gallery exhibitions.
This material is required to encourage accessibility and understanding of the exhibitions
and to enliven the viewer's experience.
Supporting information can take a number of forms including:
- written (artist's statements, catalogue, essay)
- berbal (artist's talk or presence in gallery)
- bisual (video)
- participative (educational workshop).
Please outline in your proposal how you intend to enhance your exhibition through
contextual information.
Proposal assessment
Proposals are assessed on the following criteria:
- fit the gallery proposal criteria
- must be the best quality ideas and artworks that extend and create an understanding
of the art form and ideas presented
- must have potential to attract a wide cross section of viewers
- is accessible to the viewing public (contextual material is required).
A curatorial group meets four times a year to assess proposals.
