About the event
Free breakfast for cyclists, free bike checks and loads of fun!
Our annual Go by bike breakfast is on Wednesday 18 February 2009, turn up with a bike and have breakfast on us!
Cycling is a healthy and fun way to get around the city and this annual celebration of cycling gets bigger and better every year. This event is for all cyclists, whether you cycle daily or just once in a while, get on your bike and join us for a fun morning.
This year we have an exciting new venue - Eastern Viaduct. Entering the Viaduct at the junction of Quay Street and Fanshawe Street, you go straight ahead, past the NZ National Maritime Museum.
Activities and entertainment on the day include:
- a programme of entertainment hosted by Jon Bridges and More FM
- great prizes including a fantastic bike from AvantiPlus Mt Eden
- spot prizes including prizes for biggest team and best fancy dress
- free bike health checks from Adventure Cycles
- free spine checks from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic.
Cycle buses
If you'd prefer to cycle in with other people why not join one of our cycle buses?
We have three 'buses' running this this year, for those who travel into the city along Tamaki Drive, the North-western cycleway or Dominion Road.
- Tamaki Drive - meet on the corner of Watene Street and Tamaki Drive at 6.45am
- North-western cycleway - meet at the corner of Carrington and Sutherland roads at 6.45am
- Dominion Road - meet at the Mt Eden war memorial at 7am
If you plan to join a "cycling bus", make sure you wear a helmet and high-visibility clothing so that motorists can see you. Check that your tyres and tubes are in good condition to avoid a puncture en route.
Volunteer marshals will ride with the "cycling buses" to help ensure safety and we'll have a police escort.
