About the event
Eight of the world's best sailing teams will battle it out in the Louis Vuitton Trophy match race regatta on Auckland's sparkling Waitemata Harbour during the Auckland Festival of Sailing.
The teams, from seven nations from around the globe, will sail America's Cup yachts on inshore courses from 9 to 21 March.
The Auckland event is one of five regattas in the newly-created Louis Vuitton Trophy series being raced around the world this year. It was the success of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series, sailed in Auckland last year, which inspired the worldwide series.
Winners of last year's regatta, Emirates Team New Zealand, will be one of the favourites to take the trophy, from teams like the legendary Italian Azzurra, which won the Louis Vuitton Trophy Nice regatta last November.
The heart of the Viaduct Harbour will be transformed into the Louis Vuitton Trophy Village during the regatta, with a big screen in Market Square keeping those on land in tune with what's happening on the water, and the daily skipper's press conference free to the public at the end of each day's racing.
