Finalists for the Air New Zealand Screen Awards were announced to an excited crowd at Bar 3, SKYCITY on Tuesday 3 July. View the list of finalists in all categories on the Screen Directors Guild of New Zealand website. The awards take place at SKYCITY theatre on 1 August.

Auckland city is home to 39 per cent of the country's creative industries workforce with 3,580 working the screen production and radio sub-sector.

Auckland City Council is committed to supporting the growth and the recognition of the creative industries and nurturing creative talent in the city. We are proud to sponsor the Air New Zealand Screen Awards, the benchmark industry awards for film and television industries in New Zealand.

The Air New Zealand Screen Awards celebrate the best productions and individual contributions across the industry over the last 12 months.

More than 300 entries across 30 Television, Short Film and Digital Feature categories have been received and finalists will be announced on 3 July 2007.

In celebration of the Air New Zealand Screen Awards and New Zealand's home-grown filmmaking talent, two free short film screenings will take place at Sky City's Bar 3, showcasing twelve of the short films entered in this year's awards.

The first screening took place on Tuesday 17 July at 7pm, and screened:

  • USO Brother - Miki Magasiva
  • Big Bad Wolves - Graig Parkes
  • The Hit - Campbell Cooley
  • Pearl Florrie and The Bull - Simmonds Brothers
  • The Paselode Story - The Simmonds Brothers
  • A Very Nice Honeymoon - The Simmonds Brothers

The second screening, on Tuesday 24 July at 7pm will feature:

  • The Memory Booth - Steven Chow
  • The Garden of Love - Fiona Samuel
  • The King Boys - Christopher and Fraser Clark
  • Shadow Over The Sun - Michelle Turner
  • Hawaiiki - Mike Jonathan
  • Fish n Chip Shop - Steven Lovatt and Kirsten Green
