Park care projects
The Auckland City Council's vision is to support a network of park care groups working on conservation projects in parks and natural areas
throughout the city. When park care groups form to 'care for their local patch', this often leads to long-term commitment and local ownership.
A number of projects (listed below) are underway throughout the city. These projects are varied and require volunteers for a number of different
tasks from tree planting to project planning to creating educational signage.
- Auckland Domain natural heritage protection
- Kepa Bush coastal forest protection, Kohimarama
- Tahuna Torea Nature Reserve shorebird protection, Glendowie
- Waiatarua Reserve wildlife protection, Meadowbank
- Waikowhai kereru sanctuary, Waikowhai/Hillsborough/Lynfield/Blockhouse Bay
- KO TE PUKAKI - A maori ecological restoration project
- McKenzie Reserve coastal botanic garden, Waiheke Island
- Mutukaroa/Hamlins Hill urban oasis, Penrose/Mt Wellington
