Fowlds Park

Park address

50 Western Springs Road, Morningside

About the park

Fowlds Park is bounded to the north by Western Springs Road, to the west by Malvern Road, and to the south and east by residential properties in Brewster Avenue, Malvern Road, Rocky Nook Avenue, Parkhill Road and Wolseley Street.

The park drops from its highest point on Western Springs Road down a bank covered by mature gum trees to the main park driveway. The land drops again on the southern side of the driveway down a planted and landscaped bank to playing fields and clubrooms with car parking.

A memorial gateway at the eastern entry to the park is dedicated to Sir George Fowlds. North of the gateway are three bowling greens and two pavilions of the Rocky Nook Bowling Club. South and west of the gateway is a grove of mature trees and a landscape rock outcrop.

At the western end of the park, separated from the main sports fields by a stand of poplar trees, is a smaller informal playing field below which on its southern side is a grassed and tree covered area with a small children’s playground. At the south western corner, the park rises steeply up a tree covered bank to adjoining residential properties.

Apart from the areas used for playing fields and vehicular access the park is liberally endowed with many mature trees both native and exotic. Picnic tables are provided at various points throughout the reserve.
