Introduction
The Cross Island walkway begins at Onetangi and ends at
Rocky Bay. Heading from north to south, this stunning walkway crosses over 3km
of public and private land through Auckland City Council, Forest & Bird and
Auckland Regional Council parks and reserves.
There is a bit of everything on this walk - a pristine
ocean beach, mature forest (including a stand of mature Kauri), the best views
of Waiheke, and beautiful cascading waterfalls. The full walk will take up to 4
hours, catching a bus back to Ostend or Matiatia. Optional overnight camping is
also available at Whakanewha Regional Park.
See Walkway guide and map for more information about
- the different parks and reserves on Waiheke Island and who looks after them;
- discovering who the kings of the forest are, and
- following the water source of Waiheke's beautiful Cascade waterfalls.
We would love to hear about your experience, please provide your feedback using
the online survey form.
