Introduction
Owhanake Coastal Track begins and ends at Oneroa Beach. It features stunning
coastal walkways linked with vineyards, bays and quiet semi-rural roads. Each area
presents uniquely breathtaking views. This guided walk explains how the land was
utilized in the past 140 years from successful Maori Gardens, the impact of shingle
removal from the late 1800's to today's focus on sustainable land management.
See Walkway guide and map
for more information about who grew the best vegetables
for colonial Auckland; why gravesites were urgently moved from Owhanake Beach in
the 1900's; and discover a private regenerating forest open for the public to walk
through and enjoy.
